About the Conference

The Research Triangle and surrounding southeast Atlantic region boasts a large and vibrant community in applied and computational mathematics spanning more than a dozen academic institutions, quite a few government agencies and laboratories, and numerous high-tech companies engaging in fundamental and applied research, interdisciplinary collaborations, biomedical and industrial applications, and education and outreach. The broader Triangle Computational and Applied Mathematics community is committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion. The aim of this inaugural and subsequent annual TriCAMS is to provide an opportunity for this community to discover one another, and to integrate, network, and collaborate toward common goals and aspirations rooted in applied and computational mathematics. The goals of TriCAMS are to:

The theme of this inaugural TriCAMS is in general areas of Optimal Control, Optimization, and Inverse Problems with Applications.

Registration is both free and required for planning and security purposes. Everyone is encouraged to register as soon as possible since once capacity is reached, registration will be closed.

Lightning Talks

The lightning session is open to all participants who are interested in presenting a high-level snapshot of their research project or results for visibility to all TriCAMS participants. Each presentation is no more than 3 minutes (sharp). Those whose posters are accepted will have a chance to upload a video of their presentation in advance. The video will be available to all registered participants of TriCAMS. A random process will be used to determine the order of presentations and to select 30 presenters if there are more submitted presentations than available slots.

COVID-19 Information for TriCAMS Participants

The university is following state guidance and does not require masks, NC State strongly encourages the use of masks, but they are not required. Please see the current community standards here, and this link from the university's fall semester COVID-19 readiness.

The best and most up-to-date information on the University's COVID-19 response is always available on the Protect the Pack website.

Facilities are using MERV 13 filters in SAS Hall. A MERV 13 will trap about 75% of air particles that are 0.3-1.0 micron in size. A HEPA filter with a MERV 17 rating will trap 99.97% of air particles that are 0.3-1.0 micron in size. However, increased filter efficiency generally results in increased pressure drop through the filter, which can lead to a reduction in airflow. This is a compromise that facilities made for SAS Hall with its HVAC system.

Acknowledgments

We would like to thank the Center for Research in Scientific Computation, Kenan Institute, the Department of Mathematics, and the College of Science at NC State University; the UNC Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences; and the Duke Trinity College of Arts and Sciences, Mathematics Department, and the Rhodes Information Initiative at Duke (iiD) for their very generous contributions to TriCAMS! We additionally thank those from Duke University, North Carolina Central University, North Carolina State University, and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill for their donations and contributions in organizing the Triangle Computational and Applied Mathematics Symposium.
